Elneta Zerelda Amicucci of Moneta, VA passed away peacefully Wednesday evening, August 18, 2021, at the age of 81 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, Virginia. Elneta was born in Ardsley, New York on April 26, 1940 to parents George Raymond and Beatrice Calhoun. Later in life, after dedicating 27 years of service to BOCES in New York, she retired to Smith Mountain Lake, Virginia where she eventually became a well-known member of her church and community. Elneta participated in the local chapter of the Red Hat Society, the SML Newcomers Club and the She-Dos jet-skiing group. She also held multiple positions at Red Valley United Methodist Church and was the resident fudgemaker at Gifts Ahoy souvenir shop, making sweets for upwards of 12 years. She was a regular lunch-goer at Hot Shots cafe where she’d walk-in to find a table that was already set with her preferred cup of hot tea waiting. Elneta was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband, Anthony Amicucci. She is survived by her sister Cynthia Stiles (Jimmy); her five children and their spouses: Rick Amicucci, Toni Rinn, Patricia Severs (Dwain), Christopher Amicucci (Heather) and Pamela Buzzeo (Robert); and her thirteen grandchildren and their spouses: Kyle Amicucci, Elizabeth Amicucci, Chelsea Rinn, Michael Buzzeo (Rylee), Jaclyn Amicucci, Christopher Amicucci, Shaun Rinn, Kathryn Amicucci, Rebecca Zane (Christopher), Robert Buzzeo, Jr., Nicholas Amicucci, Rachael Buzzeo, and Alaina Amicucci. She was also preceded in death by step-grandchild Teddy King and is survived by step-grandchildren William Rinn VI (Cherie), Robert Rinn and Brian Rinn, her two cats Callie and Casey, and her very dear friend Judith Hughes. Elneta will always be remembered for her kindness, her friendly attitude and welcoming personality, her stubbornness but also her dedication and hard work. She was specially known for her love of playing board games and cards, “a card laid is a card played,” she’d always say. Her pride and joy was her family, with whom she was very close. She’d spend a full weekend making Christmas cookies with her grandchildren each year to send out to friends and family. She loved to garden, keep birdhouses and watch hummingbirds. The color purple was her favorite. She liked painting and making jewelry in her free time and she loved to read, especially books with fantastical elements like the Harry Potter and Outlander series. Elneta truly enjoyed traveling and experienced sites such as the Great Wall of China, and the Pyramids of Giza by camelback. She found a particular comfort walking the beach looking for shells and watching the waves of the ocean with her family by her side and a mudslide in her hand. She was well known for thoughtfully writing cards to so many friends and family members for every holiday, birthday, or momentous occasion. Her strength, caring, and love will carry on for years to come. She is loved and missed greatly by all who knew her. To celebrate Elneta’s life, a visitation will take place at Conner-Bowman Funeral Home in Rocky Mount, VA from 2-4 PM Saturday, August 21, 2021. In lieu of flowers, donations in Elneta’s memory may be made to Red Valley United Methodist Church in Boones Mill, VA. An additional service, date and time to be determined, will be held at Joseph J.Smith Funeral Home in Mahopac, NY, Elneta will be buried next to her husband in Rosehill Memorial Cemetery in Putnam Valley, NY. Love and blessings always.
