Ivy J. Layman

Ivy J. Layman, Jr., age 80 of Rocky Mount, passed away Sunday, May 24, 2015. Mr. Layman was born September 10, 1934 to the late Ivy J. Sr. and Helen J. Layman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son William Fred Layman; brothers Ronnie and Keith Layman; father-in-law and mother-in-law Fred B. and Antholene Mullins; sister-in-law Jean M. Turman; brother-in-law Bobby Worley. Ivy was a member of Fairview Church of the Brethren, a charter member of the Waidsboro Ruritan Club and was retired from Appalachian Power after 36 years of employment. Mr. Layman also served his country as a veteran of the US Army Reserves. Surviving is his loving wife of 61 years Ina Mullins Layman; children Ivy J. Layman III and wife Lisa, Kim Layman Burton and her husband Tim; grandchildren Ivy J. Layman, IV (Sabrina), April Burton Stovall (Joshua), Chelsea Layman Hall (Doug), Casey Danielle Burton; great-grandchildren Ricky Blaize Layman, Tyler J. Layman; step great-grandchildren Autumn Hall, Kristin Hall; brother Kenneth Layman (Donna); sister Audrey Saul (Arnold); sisters-in-law Jan Layman, Nettie Jones and Shirley Worley; brother-in-law Fred Booth Mullins, Jack Turman. In lieu of flowers, his family asks that donations be made in his name to Camp Bethel, Camp Scholarships, 328 Bethel Rd., Fincastle, VA 24090. Memorial services will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday from Fairview Church of the Brethren with Pastor Jeff Wray officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
