Armstead Young

We are saddened to announce our father, grandfather and great grandfather, Armstead Akers (Will) Young, a talented and remarkable man, left us this past weekend, at the age of 94. Throughout his life, he demonstrated exceptional talent and an unwavering commitment to sharing his wisdom, rendering him a blessing to our family. Among his numerous interests were clockmaking. He sang, played guitar, harmonica, banjo, he loved painting and gardening, each reflecting his diverse talents and passions. He will be truly missed.

Pre- by parents William Armstead Young and Leah Boone Akers Young Hunt He was preceded in death by all of his siblings Elsie Holland Nash, Ruby Lynch, William Kennis Young, Mabel Powell, Sylvia Peggy Young Woody , Thomas Dalton Young and Wattie A (Bill) Young. He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife Joyce June Clark Young

He is survived by his children Steven Young, Elaine West, Timothy Young and Carol (Perry) Whitlock grandchildren Leah, Inge, Julia, David, Timothy, Gary, Jon and Patrick; great-grandchildren many nieces and nephews and extended family.

Our Family wants to express how Thankful we are for Carilion Home Health Care and then Carilion Hospice for having helped myself and my two brothers Timothy Young and Steven Young care for him. We are so very thankful for these “Angels” that choose Healthcare as a profession and are willing and able to help families at a time when we would be lost without their knowledge and their help in caring for our loved ones

Funeral services will be conducted 2 PM Wednesday, February 11, 2026 at Conner-Bowman Funeral Home with Mr. Sam Rogers officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Memorial Park. His family will receive friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 1 PM at the funeral home.
