Carson Alvin Jones

Carson Alvin Jones, age 76 of Ferrum died Saturday, January 2, 2010. He was drafted in the U.S. Army and served two years during the Korean Conflict, was a charter member and first President of Crossroad Ruritan Club, and a member of the American Legion. Mr. Jones was self-employed and owned his own business. He was preceded in death by his father, Claude Daniel Jones; mother, Dora Shively Jones; brother, Delbert Arnold Jones; daughter, Linda Gay Jones; and a son, Toby Gearheart. Carson leaves his wife of 13 years, Shirley to cherish his memories; A son, Daniel Carson Jones, Ferrum; his three daughters, Brenda and Dwayne Manning, Bassett, Elaine and Ed Handy, Sandy Traylor, Ferrum. He is also survived by Margaret Jones, who is the mother of his children; stepdaughters, Sabrina and Tom Hubert, Ohio, Vickie Irby, Christiansburg, Sherrie and Cecil Snead, Roanoke; brothers, Ralph and Catherine Jones, Maryland, J.D. and Maxine Jones, Ferrum, Manford and Jean Jones, Ohio, Roger and Susie Jones, Bassett; sister, Inez and Ivey Cook, Ferrum; brother-in-law, Ed and Doris Montgomery, Rocky Mount; sisters-in-law, Louise Hammed, Delaware, Frankie and Gene Moncrief, Ohio, Peggy and Paul Wilson, Hazel Ellis, Rocky Mount; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; six step grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; his two very special aunts, Eva Peters and Nora Underwood, Ferrum; a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors and friends. The family would like to extend their sincere thanks and appreciation to everyone that sent cards and food, and to Carilion Hospice of Franklin County and the Hospice Unit of the VA Medical Center, and all the prayers that went up for him. Funeral services will be conducted from Lynch Conner-Bowman Funeral Chapel, 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 6, 2010 with Rev. Roger Jones officiating. Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery with military honors. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made in his name to VA Medical Center Hospice Unit, 1970 Roanoke Blvd., Salem, Virginia 24153.
