Charles Ray “Charlie” Perry age 75 of Callaway died at his home on Saturday, May 4, 2019. After retiring from the U.S. Navy in 1980, Charles moved to Franklin County as fast as he could, and received his degree in Philosophy from Ferrum College. He never lost his thirst for knowledge, or sharing his knowledge. Regardless of how much you were laughing through his great stories, you were always learning something. He loved Franklin County and farming and was very active at Phoebe Needles Center. He was born on June 11, 1943 a son of the late Ralph Haywood and Mary McCall Perry and also preceded in death by his five brothers, Ralph, Ernest, Howard, Tom and Bob Perry. He is survived by his sister, Martha Perry. He is also survived by his beloved Lucy B. Ricardo, of the home; children, Phillip Perry, Phyllis Perry and Whitney Auer, and Pam Perry; Robin Crist, David Ricardo and Valerie, Tom Ricardo, and Becky Ricardo and Ted Price; grandchildren, Mickey, Kelly, Dennis, Virginia, Emma, Brittany, Joy, Aaron, Jasmine, Bruce, Craig, and Emily; great-grandchildren, Haleigh, Lindsey, and Matthew.; and seven nieces and nephews, as well as other family and many friends. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial contributions to Phoebe Needles Center, 732 Turners Creek Road, Callaway, VA 24067. A memorial service celebrating his life will be announced at a later date.
