Donna Braunat Broomhall age 87 of Rocky Mount passed away on Friday, October 17, 2025.
Born in Jersey City, New Jersey on September 18, 1938, she spent her earliest years in New York City before moving to Norfolk during the war. She later grew up in Maryland, where her exceptional intelligence and curiosity set her apart. A National Merit Scholar, she earned multiple scholarships and attended St. John’s College in Annapolis.
Gifted in many ways, she had a deep love for painting, writing, and composing music. Her creative spirit and quick mind shone through everything she did—from her thoughtful conversations to her cooking, baking, and the flowers she lovingly tended throughout her life.
Though life took her down different paths than she once imagined, she found fulfillment and purpose in the love of her family and in sharing her gifts with others. She taught many children to read, did crafts with them, and always sought to nurture and inspire young minds. She also cherished the simple joys in life—especially reading a good book with a cup of coffee by her side. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were her proudest legacy and the center of her heart.
She spent her later years in Virginia, where she passed away peacefully at the age of 87 on October 17, 2025
She was preceded in death by her Father, Walter; Mother, Eleanor; Son, Michael; many aunts, uncles, cousins; and her best friend, Ann
She is survived by her sister, Wendy (Frank) Kuczler; Nieces and Nephews, Laura (Michael), Lisa (Joshua), and Daniel (Jennifer), and their children, Daughters, Stephanie (Mark) and Cinda; Grandchildren, Elizabeth (Fred), Lynna(Ranfery), Liam; Great-grandchildren, Giovanna, Damian, Bryson, Daxton, Jimena, Karaleigh, Reighlynn, Sunshine, and Malaya; special caregivers: Trinesha and Alexis, and their children, whom she considered her own; Dear friends: Ruth and Gloria; and many others who lovingly knew her as “Granny.”
