Earnest Horsley

September 3, 1924 — December 20, 2010

Earnest Hilton Horsley (Papa Earnie), age 86 of Glade Hill went to heaven to be with Jesus Christ on Monday, December 20, 2010. He went peacefully surrounded by family. Earnest was born September 3, 1924 to the late Frank & Mary Horsley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Eva of 30 years; one infant daughter; one grandson Toney Motley; two great-granddaughters Ashley and Shannon Motley; one brother Edgar Horsley. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and true friend to all who met him. In his lifetime, he was a man of many adventures. He was a Marine, truck driver, business owner and bus driver. In his retirement years, he was an avid farmer and gardener. He leaves many precious memories and lessons learned. His final words were I love You. Surviving are stepdaughter Linda Thurman and husband Swanson Thurman; one granddaughter Regina Motley; two grandsons Kim (Cindy) Thurman, Randy Thurman; great-grandchildren Tiffany Thurman (Chris), Jack Thurman, Lyndsey Thurman, Angela Motley, Heather Thurman; great-great-grandchildren Morgan Motley and Addisyn Lambert; two nieces Margaret Munford of Danville and Joan Wyatt of Wilmington, NC; special friends Keith Speck, Heidi Sendall, Misty Littlefield and many other too numerous to mention. Funeral services will be conducted from Conner-Bowman Funeral Chapel 2:00 p.m. Wednesday with Rev. James Graham officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. His family will be receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Conner-Bowman Funeral Home & Crematory, Rt. 220 @ Wirtz Rd., 62 Virginia Market Place Dr., Rocky Mount. www.connerbowman.com
