Francis H. Casey, born on November 4, 1955, entered into rest on July 9, 2026. His journey through life was marked by enduring love for his family, an unwavering commitment to helping others, and tremendous personal resilience.

Born and raised in New Jersey, Fran dedicated much of his working life to the restaurant industry. He was known for his tireless work ethic and dedication, touching countless lives through his service and camaraderie within the places he worked. Fran always took pride in a job well done, and his honest and humble approach brought warmth to both his colleagues and customers alike.

Yet, what distinguished Francis most profoundly was his courageous and steadfast struggle with alcoholism. For years, he battled bravely, never allowing setbacks to obscure his hope. In the 1990s, seeking support and companionship, Fran relocated to live with his beloved sister Patty. There, he made the life-changing decision to seek sobriety once and for all—a journey he credited wholly to his faith and God’s guidance. That day, as he often confided to those who knew him, marked his greatest and most meaningful accomplishment.

Embracing recovery with remarkable tenacity and sincerity, Fran went on to devote himself to Alcoholics Anonymous. His dedication did not end with his own sobriety; Fran became a mentor to many who struggled with addiction, offering encouragement and understanding free of judgment. He worked tirelessly to pay forward the grace he received, even going so far as to help initiate new AA chapters where there was none, giving others the lifeline that proved so pivotal in his own journey.

To those blessed to know him, Fran will be remembered not just for his perseverance, but for his compassion and generosity of spirit. He faced the stigma and hardship associated with addiction with honesty, always determined to share hope where others may have felt despair. Through his mentorship, countless lives found strength and solace.

Francis was a cherished brother, loved deeply by his siblings: Chrissy Casey, Maureen (the late Michael) Santonastaso, and Patty (the late Nickolai) Brandt. He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph Casey and Louise Ungerer Casey, as well as his siblings Kathy, Michael, and Joseph Jr. His memory will be fondly treasured by numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom he adored. His special friend Mary Lou also mourns his passing, recalling the kindness and warmth Fran so freely gave.

As Fran’s life drew to a close, he found peace and fulfillment, having made amends with the Lord he trusted throughout his journey. Reflecting on his path, he embraced the words of 1 Corinthians 15:10 (ESV): “But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace to me was not in vain.”

A celebration of Fran’s life will take place at 2:00 pm on Monday, July 13, 2026, at Conner-Bowman Funeral Home, 62 Virginia Market Place Drive, Rocky Mount, Virginia 24151. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, starting at 1:00 PM.  Pastor Rick Poland will officiate the ceremony. In honor of Fran’s wishes, cremation will take place, and family will welcome friends one hour prior to the service.

Francis H. Casey’s legacy will endure in the hearts of the many lives he touched—with gratitude for his hard-won wisdom, his unwavering generosity, and his resolute spirit.
