Gelene Abshire Amos

Gelene Amos, age 95, of Boones Mill, passed away Sunday, February 19, 2023. She was born May 4, 1927 to the late Henry T. and Bessie Hodges Abshire and was preceded in death by her husband Raymond Amos. Best known for her love of music, she was the pianist and then the organist for the Boones Mill Christian Church for more than 60 years until the age of 92. It is fitting that she went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, the Lord’s day, her favorite day of the week. She was also known for her love for and expertise in flowers. She was a master of floral arrangements. She is the mother of four sons and also a caring mother figure to many who grew up in the town of Boones Mill. She is survived by sons Wayne Amos (California), Donnie Amos (Callaway), Gary Amos and wife Carol Ann (Virginia Beach), David Amos and wife Vickie (Roanoke); and by her grandchildren, Greg Amos and wife Stephanie (Texas), Derek Amos and wife Tara (Georgia), Karissa Amos Fox and husband Danny (Tennessee), Trinity Amos Peacock and husband Caleb (Tennessee); and by her great grandchildren Selah Amos, Naomi Amos, Logan Amos, Judah Peacock, Elayna Peacock, Angelina Fox, Valerie Fox, Seth Fox, and Venus Thomas. She is survived by special nephew, Eddie Webster and wife Connie (Boones Mill), by special niece Heddie Lou Sumner and husband Bill (Eagle Rock), by special niece Joetta Fisher and husband Dale (Boones Mill), and by numerous other church-family members and friends. A special thanks to Harold, Gail, and Sam Boitnott, the best neighbors possible. A special thanks to the fabulous staff of the Palliative Care unit, 10th Floor, Carillion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, too many to mention, and to Tony in particular, for the wonderful care and compassion shown to Gelene and her family. A service of thanksgiving and commemoration will be held at the Boones Mill Christian Church, 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 23, 2023, Pastor Elaine Austin officiating. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service.
