George "Junior" Greer

George “Junior” Greer was embraced by his Savior, Jesus Christ on Tuesday, June 11, 2019. He was born on February 26, 1928 to George Washington and Mary Crouch Greer. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 57 years, Margaret Frances Simmons Greer; brother Gilbert (Pappy) Greer, and sister Kathleen (Boots) Truman. Surviving to cherish his memories are a son, Eddie (Arlet) Greer; daughters, Nancy (David) Craighead and Peggy Overstreet; his grandchildren, Celena (Kevin) Bowman, John (Melissa) Greer, Angela (Randy) Fitzwater, Megan (David) Ellis, Brandon (Lauren) Craighead, Mollie (Charlie) Harrison, Hannah (Drew) Goodman, Justin (Liz) Overstreet, and Jacob Overstreet. Survivors also include his brother, Shorty Greer (Dollie); brother-in-law, Dalton Simmons; sisters-in-law, Melva Beard and Janet Simmons, and many special nieces and nephews. Junior enjoyed his 17 great-grandchildren, his church family, gardening, and restoring early 1950’s Chevrolet trucks. In his last days, he especially enjoyed his N & W friends. He was a man of great faith and at the end of his prayer he always asked the Lord “when you are finished with us on this earth, give us a home in heaven”. So Dad’s prayer has been answered. The family will accept flowers or memorial contributions may be made in Junior’s name to Ninevah Church, P.O. Box 377, Hardy, VA 24101 Funeral services will start at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, June 15, 2019 at Nineveh Church (7060 Hardy Road, Hardy VA 24101) with Pastors William “Buzzy” Robertson and Tim Emmons officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Vinton. Visitation will begin 9 a.m. Saturday at the church with the family assembling and receiving friends from 10 a.m. until service time.
