Betty Gertrude Young, of Rocky Mount stepped out into eternity one week after her 80th birthday on Thursday, December 17, 2009. She was a daughter of the late Moten and Ola Amos Davis. She was also preceded in death by her previous husband, Earlie L. Turner; two sons, William and Everett Turner; three brothers and two sisters. Surviving are her husband, John Richard Young; daughters, Earlene Crowe and Bettina Wingfield; sons, Michael Turner (Sharon), Thomasville, NC and David Turner, Roanoke; six grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; sister, Shelby Jean Holley; step-sister, Reva Spicer; former son-in-law, Lonnie Crowe; numerous other relatives and friends. Due to the weather forecast, Funeral services have been rescheduled to be conducted from Lynch Conner-Bowman Funeral Chapel 2 p.m. Monday, December 21, 2009 with Rev. Bill Doss and Pastor Ronald Coleman officiating. Interment will follow in the Davis-Hodges Family Cemetery. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Franklin County Rescue Squad. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
