Today, September 22, 2025, The Lord called home Helen Faye Cannaday, age 77, of Prillaman Switch Road, Ferrum, VA.
Helen, fondly known as “Punkin” was born on September 19, 1948. She was the youngest daughter of William Washington and Allie Chaney Cannaday. She was proceeded in death by her parents and beloved siblings, Donald (Dot) Cannaday, Billy Wayne Cannaday, Maynard Cannaday, Dillard “Chinese” Cannaday and her special “Sis” Mabel Cannaday Prillaman.
Left to cherish Helen are her special nieces/nephews Debbie P. (Bill) Fuller, Tim (Gina) Prillaman, Pat C. Bailey, Lisa C. (Jeff) Jones, Donald “Buster” (Nancy) Cannaday, Rita Cannaday, Gloria Jean Bradley, and Gary (Judy) Cannaday. In addition, she was loved and cherished by her many great nieces/nephews and special friends/cousins, Sandra Mullins, Kathy Sink, Linda Loar, and Wanda Motley.
The Lord gave Helen the most special gift of being a “true caregiver.” Through the years she has cared for her parents, siblings, and extended family members. God’s word portrays caregiving as selfless, sacrificial acts of love that are highly praised. Helen, always put others before her own needs, never complaining about long hours and time spent in her pursuit of helping them. She exemplified the meaning of caregiving and left us to cherish her legacy, and to further carry that torch on to the next generation.
She loved playing cards with her family, listening to music (Loretta Lynn & Conway Twitty), genuinely enjoyed family functions, being surrounded by friends and most importantly she loved her Jesus. She held a special fondness for her church, Prillaman Baptist Church, of which she was a lifetime member. She had a particular tenderness for the Back-Pack Ministry.
Services will be held at the Prillaman Baptist Church on September 24, 2025, at 2 pm with visitation being held 1 hour prior. She will be laid to rest at the Republican Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, Republican Church Road, Ferrum, VA.
In Lieu of flowers, the family asked that donations be made to the Prillaman Baptist Church, (pack-back ministry) 2340 Prillaman Switch Rd, Ferrum, Va. 24088 or The Good Samaritan Hospice, 4751 Cove Road NW. Roanoke, VA 24017 in her memory.
The family would like to thank The Good Samaritan Hospice Team (Amber and Sandy) for their exceptional care and support of our Aunt Helen and the family.
Additionally, an incredibly special “thank you” to her main caregiver, Debbie P. Fuller, for her compassionate acts of love/care and to those special family members that provided love and support while Aunt Helen was ill.
