Ina Messenger

Ina Jones Messenger age 96 of Callaway departed this life on Friday, July 30, 2010 to be with the Lord. She was born May 18, 1914 in Callaway, Virginia and was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Aldine Jones and Sallie Elmer Jones and Step-mother Pearl Jones; her husband, William Donald (Tiny) Messenger, Sr.; brothers, Ishmael, Rudolph and Stafford Jones. Surviving are her daughter, Mary Atkins (Kemp) of Summerfield, NC, three sons, W. D. Jr., (Gaynell), Henry (Linda) and Allen (Pam) Messenger, all of Callaway; four sisters, Juanita Howell, Estelle Jones, Christine Jones and Geraldine Smith (William); three sisters-in-law, Thelma Jones, Patricia Jones and Mollie Jones; 6 Grandchildren, Eric Messenger (Kim), Jonathan Messenger (Emily), Shane Atkins, Nicole Caron (Craig), Lori Messenger and Donald Messenger (Wendy); 9 great grandchildren, Kayla and Madison Messenger, Haley and Allison Atkins, Keira Clemons, Maddie and Lyndsay Caron, and Nicholas and Layne Messenger. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Ina attended Pigg River Primitive Baptist Church all her life. Hers was a strong but quiet faith. She was a 1935 graduate of Callaway High School. Her favorite pastimes were gardening, flowers, cooking, and talking about the old days. Most of all she loved her family and the dear friends of Callaway. The family would like to thank the Staff of Carilion Franklin Memorial Hospital, and a heart-felt thanks to Inas special friend, Geraldine Sigmon. Funeral services will be held Sunday, August 1, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. at Lynch Conner-Bowman Funeral Chapel with Elder Junior Conner officiating. Interment will be in the Guilliams Family Cemetery at 2166 Five Mile Mountain Road in Callaway. Visitation will be Saturday from 6:00 8:00 p.m., at Lynch- Conner-Bowman Funeral Home and other times friends may call at the home of Henry and Lynda Messenger. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Callaway Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 44, Callaway, VA 24067.
