James Cyrus "Jim" Ayers

July 11, 1920 — April 25, 2019

James Cyrus “Jim” Ayers, Sr., age 98 of Union Hall, passed away April 25, 2019. Jim was born July 11, 1920 and was the last surviving child of the late Ebenezer and Blanche Ayers. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years Audrey Irene Ayers; one grandchild and one great-great-grandchild; his brothers, George and Henry Ayers; sisters Lottie Ayers, Mattie Smith and Nannie Bet Hubbard; brother-in-law John Altice; sisters-in-law Ethel Perdue and Gertrude Arrington. Jim proudly served his country in the US Army during World War II. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and playing cards. Jim loved his family and would always go the extra mile to help anyone in need. Surviving are his sons J.C. Ayers, Jr (Linda) of Union Hall, Tommy Ayers of the home, Gary Ayers (Dianne) of Rocky Mount; daughters Joyce Toney (Mike) of Burnt Chimney, Norma Moore (Sonny) of Union Hall, Debra Kirk (David) of Rocky Mount, Linda Tosh (Billy) Rocky Mount, Twyla McGurty (Bob) of Rogersville, MO; nine grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; two step-great-great-grandchildren; special niece and caregiver Joanie Blankenship (Dennis); special friends Toby Hodges, Tony Clements and W.C. Brown; many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly. Funeral services will be conducted from Lynch Conner-Bowman Funeral Home (Town Chapel) 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 29, 2019 with Kevin Tosh and Pastor Bob McGurty officiating. Interment will follow in the Ayers Family Cemetery. His family will be receiving friends from 5-8 p.m. Sunday at Lynch Conner-Bowman Funeral Home, 140 Floyd Ave., Rocky Mount.
