James David Ingram (Jimmy), 91, passed from this life to the next on Wednesday, October 15, 2025. Son of Alexander Fountain Ingram and Mattie Ruth Ingram and husband of 66 ½ years to his loving wife Roberta Carver Ingram (Bobbie). He leaves behind a family legacy that includes their two daughters, Deborah Jean England and Barbara Ingram Jones. Also, their families that make up two sons-in-law, five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Jim was a proud Marine and served his country during the Korean War. After leaving Virginia for Florida, where he would spend the next 5 decades, met his lifelong bride Bobbie and raised his family, he enjoyed a thirty-seven (37) year career with the Martin Marietta Corporation. There, he served to lead large teams that ensured many of the defense programs he worked on were delivered accurately and promptly.
Jim, at a young age, developed a lasting affection and appreciation for bluegrass music. He and Bobbie spent many years traveling to festivals and fairs where they would listen for hours while enjoying the company of many friends and close family. He also enjoyed sharing a good round of Flatfoot dancing to his favorite bluegrass tunes.
At other times, Jim and Bobbie enjoyed trips with their best Florida friends and avid Jeep lovers. From beach dunes and orange groves to swamp bogs, many tales could be told of the shenanigans that ensued.
Jim was also an avid NASCAR fan and Dale Earnhardt fanatic, religiously going to races as well as watching and listening to the weekend race. It was not unusual to find him in front of a TV as well as a couple of radios, all at the same time, ensuring that he didn’t miss a highlight. The Black #3 can still be found in many places around the house and barn.
Much to the delight of those that loved Jim and Bobbie, they retired and returned to Virginia 31 years ago, building a home on the Ingram farm which has been in the family for many decades. Many family gatherings have been enjoyed over the years on the homeplace.
We know that somewhere, Jim is enjoying his morning cup of coffee with a waffle, peanut butter and syrup, then headed out to the barn.
