Leighton Elbert Smith, Jr.

Leighton Elbert Smith, Jr. age 62 of Troutville and formerly of Covington passed away on Saturday, July 19, 2025 in Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital after a strong and courageous battle of cancer. He was preceded in death by his father, Leighton Elbert Smith, Sr., grandparents, Elbert and Virginia Smith and Hunter and Evelyn Dudley. Leighton worked many years as a carpenter, dry wall hanger for Hollands Construction and carpenter with Peter Seales Company. He loved fishing with his life-long buddies, Steve Emore, Jeffery Vest and Paul Thompson (deceased). He also loved hunting, his family and little canine companion, Butterbean.

Leighton is survived by his wife, Ivy M. Smith; son, Blake Smith; daughter, Brooke Smith; his mother, Regina Smith; and a brother, Hunter Smith all of Iron Gate. He is also survived by his one granddaughter, Brooke Makenzie Smith of Waynesboro; brothers-in-law, Timmy Young (Jane), Scott Young (Kathy), Wally Muterspaugh; many nieces nephews, and best friend, Steve Elmore, Lexington.

A memorial celebration of Leighton's life will be conducted 4:00 PM Sunday, August 17, 2025 at Troutville Assembly of God Church with Pastor Dennis Carroll officiating.
