Lewis C. Berry (1952-2026)

Lewis C. Berry, 73, of Moneta, Virginia, died peacefully at home on February 10, 2026.

He was born in Tulare, California in 1952. An adventurous spirit from the start, as a young man Lew took to surfing the waves of Santa Cruz and enjoyed an occasional train hop along the California coast.

Lew loved to travel. At 18 years old, he joined a traveling magazine sales crew and spent the next 30 years in the business, managing his own crew and touring all over the United States and Europe.

In 1982, Lew met the love of his life, Sandie, at a cocktail bar where she worked. They immediately connected over their shared experience of growing up in the San Joaquin Valley and their love of travel and living life to the fullest. Excited to start their new lives together, the two were married on December 12, 1982 in Lake Tahoe at Love’s Wedding Chapel by Pastor Love.

Everyone knew Lew as an avid golfer. His clubs were never far from reach. He played courses across the country, most notably landing a hole-in-one during a monsoon in Phoenix, Arizona. In his later years, he took great pride and pleasure working as a groundskeeper at Beaver’s Creek Golf Club, with owner and best friend Greg Haley.

Lew will always be remembered for his tenacity, sense of humor, and love of life. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Lew was preceded in death by his mother, Violet Spotts, his father Lewis H. Spotts Jr., and his son, Lewis Berry Jr., and is survived by his beautiful wife, Sandie Berry, and two children, Chamonix Berry and Beaux Neige Berry, as well as his sister-in-law Patty Hunter, nephews Jason and Jon Hunter, niece Kelsey Scruggs, and “adopted” son Steven McDaniel.
