Loyd James Carpenter

Loyd James Carpenter, 80 years old of Rocky Mount, VA, formerly of Hacker Valley, West Virginia passed from this earthly bond on April 16, 2018, after a lengthy illness at his home surrounded by his family. He was born in Hacker Valley on August 28, 1937 to the late Hubert and Georgie Cowger Carpenter. He was loved and will be greatly missed by his wife, formerly Loretta Bleigh whom he married April 21, 1957. They had one daughter Sherry Cogar, husband Allen of Rocky Mount, VA; one son Dr. Zandall J. Carpenter of Albuquerque, New Mexico; one grandson Zachary Cogar, wife Jennifer of Rocky Mount, VA; one granddaughter Leandra Hobson, husband Michael of Troutman, NC; two great-grandsons Jackson and Raylan Cogar; two great-granddaughters Addyson and Baylee Cogar all of Rocky Mount, VA; one step granddaughter, Emily Dooley of Eagle Rock, VA; one brother Dempsey Carpenter, wife Wilma; one sister Arvella Moats, husband Richard all of Hacker Valley, WV; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and many friends and extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandchild. Loyd, was well known for his work as a potter, logger and a gifted craftsman. He loved working with wood and walking in the woods accompanied by his dog. He attended Cowger Hill Community Church. He loved spending time with his family. Friends may join the family for visitation on Saturday, April 21, 2018, from 6 to 9pm at Dodd & Reed Funeral Home. Funeral Services to celebrate Loyd’s life will be held on Sunday, April 22, 2018 at Dodd & Reed Funeral Home beginning at Noon with the Rev. Allen Cogar officiating.
