Lucy Catherine Cooper age 83 of Rocky Mount died Saturday, March 20, 2010. She was born May 28, 1926 a daughter of the late George & Emma Cooper. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Roy Walter Cooper; three brothers Victor Cooper, Leonard Cooper and Charlie Cooper; and Sister Nancy Cooper Wright; son-in-law, Mervin M. Peters; and step grand-daughter Melissa Sink. Lucy was a great mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother. Everyone loved Lucy! She loved to cook, bake and work in her flowers; she was a member of Furnace Creek Baptist Church for 58 years and loved her Sunday School Class, The Willing Workers. Lucy is survived by her son, Gary Walter Cooper of Rocky Mount; her daughter and son in law Carolyn & Winfred Naff of Rocky Mount; granddaughter Tammy Peters Hodges of Union Hall, great-grand- children, Ashley Renea and Brenden Cole Hodges. She is also survived by her sisters Blanche Willis of Ferrum, Lula Snyder of Rocky Mount; sister-in-law Helen Cooper of Roanoke; several nieces and nephews. Special family and neighbors Gladys Lynch, Betty & Donald Maddy, Gail & C.W. Thomas, and Billy Lynch. Funeral services will be conducted from Conner-Bowman Funeral Chapel 2 p.m. Monday, March 22, 2010 with Rev. Michael Lawhorn and Rev. Joe Dillon officiating. Interment will follow in the Furnace Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. Flowers will be appreciated or memorials can be made to the Furnace Creek Baptist Church Cemetery Fund or the Melissa Sink Memorial Scholarship Fund at any BB&T Bank. Her family will receive friends on Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Conner-Bowman Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the home of Carolyn Naff (30 Highview Terrace, Rocky Mount).
