Mrs. Pate Hudson Cobbs went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 17, 2024. She was preceded in death by her parents Henry Herschel and Helen Bennett Hudson and husband of 49 years George Milton (G.M.) Cobbs.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law Mitch and Sherry Cobbs, daughter Cathy Cobbs and grandsons Chase and wife Elizabeth Cobbs, and Cade Cobbs.
Pate was a retired LPN who worked in the medical field for over 50 years. She was well known for working at the Boones Mill Clinic for Dr. William C. Hughes. Even after retiring she would help out around the county as a fill in nurse at several clinics. She gave the easiest shots and for the children she would ask if you wanted Chocolate, vanilla or strawberry. She volunteered at Burnt Chimney Elementary for 10 years in kindergarten or in nurse’s office. Many of the children called her “grandma”. She was well known for making all types of baked sweets. You never knew when she would show up and drop off some type of cake, pie, brownies or candy to share. She loved driving fast and kept the road hot between Rocky Mount and Burnt Chimney either in her black Oldsmobile Cutless or her little blue Toyota Truck. Pate loved her family, friends and neighbors and could be counted on day or night to help. As a nurse she loved helping others and if someone called her for help during the night she might show up in her PJ’s!
Pate loved her grandsons and spoiled them rotten. She enjoyed taking them to the Buzz In to get Bug Juice, candy, or a slushie. She may even take them to McDonald’s for a “cone of cream” in the summer. They were the highlight of her life after the death of her husband.
Special thanks to her caregivers Linda Murphy & Kim Morris for their friendship and love for Pate over the past few years and also to Sarah Campbell and the staff at Fork Mountain Adult Rest Home for their special care and kindness toward Miss Pate (Twiggy), where she felt like she was at home.
In lieu of flowers the family suggest donations can be made to Fork Mountain Adult Rest Home, 2925 Fork Mountain road, Rocky Mount, VA 24151.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM Monday, January 22, 2024 at Conner-Bowman Funeral Home with Pastor Daniel Naff officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Memorial Park. Friends may call after 12:00 PM Sunday with her family receiving friends from 4 to 6 PM.
