Nancy Zeigler Thurman

On October 20, 2023 after 77 years on this earth our sweet wife, mama and nanny became the most beautiful angel in Heaven. Nancy Carolyn Zeigler Thurman was born on September 7, 1946, to the late Bernice and Janie Zeigler of Union Hall, Va. On May 1, 1964, she married the love of her life, Ravon Thurman, and they made their home in the little community of Redwood where they would share over 59 years of love, life and marriage. She was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, Nina Mae Davis, Jimmy (Joyce), Randy (Emma) and Kenny Dean Zeigler; her father- and mother-in-law, Albert & Doris Thurman; brothers-in-law, Swanson (Linda), JB & Garry Dale Thurman and Billy Wayne Dudley.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by three daughters, Cindy, Stacie, and Kathy; five grandchildren, Bethany, Johnathan, Raven (Brandon), Travis and Luther; three great grandchildren, Bentley, Hayden, and Branson; sister, Judy Bowyer; Brothers Pete (Judy), Larry (Carolyn) and Barry Zeigler; sisters-in-law, Mary, Kaye & Donna Thurman and Maggie Dudley; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Nancy spent most of her life farming with Ravon. If you couldn’t find her in the tobacco field, hay field or working the cows you may have found her on the softball field or at the bowling alley. But she will be most remembered for the years she and her family owned and operated the Redwood Express Mart. There she made a lifetime of friends who she always cherished.

Nancy loved her flowers, hummingbirds, snowmen, and the color purple, but what she loved most was her family.

We would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Lewis Gale Medical Center ICU, PCU & 6th Floor for the care they gave her during her last days.We also want to thank everyone who prayed continuously for her and our family. If the love, prayers, and tears could have saved her life she would be home today but God had other plans for her.

Funeral services will be conducted 7 p.m. Tuesday at Conner-Bowman Funeral Chapel with the Pastor Eddie Hawks officiating. Her family will be receiving friends Tuesday from 5-7 p.m. before the service at Conner-Bowman Funeral Home, Rt. 220, 62 Virginia Marketplace Dr., Rocky Mount, VA 24151
