Richard S. Dick Whitlow

Richard Scott Dick Whitlow, age 81 of Roanoke died Thursday, January 28, 2010 at his home. He was retired from Trigon Blue Cross/Blue Shield and served in the U.S. Army during the occupation of Japan following World War II. He was also a member of Masonic Lodge #201 in Rocky Mount and was a longtime member of Greene Memorial United Methodist Church in Roanoke and a former member of Rocky Mount United Methodist Church. Mr. Whitlow was born June 7, 1928 a son of the late Robert Noell, Sr. and Minnie Whitlow. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen D. Whitlow; and his brother, Robert Noell Whitlow, Jr. Surviving are his son and daughter-in-law, Michael Scott and Laura Whitlow, Roanoke; daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and Jack Brundage, Sicily, Janet and Ted Rhodes, Bridgewater, Kimberly and Gary Mundrake, Centreville, Maryland; nine grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Reese and Oliver Woody, Roanoke. A memorial service will be conducted from Greene Memorial United Methodist Church 1:30 p.m. Monday, February 1, 2010 with Rev. Gary Robbins officiating. Inurnment will be private in High Street Cemetery, Rocky Mount. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Greene Memorial United Methodist Church or L.O.A. Meals on Wheels. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church social hall.
