Shelby Williams Adkins

July 11, 1936 — August 4, 2023

Shelby Williams Adkins, age 87, of Sago, VA went to her heavenly home on Friday August 4, 2023.  She was preceded in death by her husband, James "Shorty" Adkins; her son, James Keith Adkins; a special grandson, Zack Adkins; her parents, Walter C. "Buster" and Omar W. Williams; her brothers, Pete, Bobby, Jerry, and Norman Williams; and her sister, Marjorie Jones.

She was a mother to four children who recall her as the strongest woman they knew.  She is survived by her son, Stewart Adkins (Debra); her daughters, Rhonda Robertson (Danny), and Trenda Pasley (Tim "Peanut"); daugter-in-law, Mary Adkins, her sister, Hattie Ashby; sisters-in-law, Peggy Jamison and Margie Shytle.  She is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who adored her, Jeremy and Kristie Adkins (Rylan & Kylie), Mallory & Scottie Fralin (Parker, Tipton, Clayton, & Winston), Ashlee A. Perdue (Masen, Tinlee, Everlee & Easton), Tabitha Robertson & Justin Carter (Skye & Talan), Chad Robertson, Logan Beth, Luke, Lawson, & Levi Pasley as well as many nieces and nephews.

Shelby served as a faithful member of Boones Chapel Church; she was treasurer of the Women's Fellowship and contributed to numerous other committees over the years.  She loved singing in the church choir, and would sing anytime anywhere.  Her alto voice will be greatly missed.  She enjoyed spending Sunday and Thursday evenings worshipping with her friends at Scottie's Fertilizer House.  She was a friend to many, a helpful hand in her community, and a dedicated follower of Christ, as evidenced by every aspect of her life.

Growing up on a tobacco farm, she spent all of her life working hard and doing what she loved.  She enjoyed working crossword puzzles and quilting with her neighbors.  Considered the "Mayor" of Sago, she will be remembered for her help as a banker, doctor, pharmacist, counselor, investigator, cook, gardener, (laundry mat), and most importantly, a Godly witness for so many.  Her children and family members alike relied on her strength and wisdom.  She will be remembered as a woman of all trades.

Granny Shelby enjoyed supporting and encouraging her grandchildren and great-granchildren in their sports and activities.  Her grandchildren loved helping her make biscuits, working alongside her in the fields, and spending time outdoors with her.  She will be truly missed and her memory cherished always and forever.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests all donations be made to Boones Chapel Church in her memory:  16405 Snow Creek Road, Penhook, VA,  24137.
