Listen to Obituary

Wesley Winfred Shilling, age 102 and 8 months of Boones Mill, passed away Saturday, August 1, 2026. Wesley was born December 4, 1923 in the Monte Vista community of Callaway to the late Coy Shilling and Bessie Gearhart Shilling Maxey. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 54 years Eula Shilling; a son Jerry Shilling and three brothers Kenneth Maxey, Carl Shilling and Thomas Maxey and three sisters Gladys Cronise, Madeline Hall and Vanola Williamson.

Wesley lived a life defined by faith, service, hard work, and love for his family. As a proud World War II veteran, he served his country aboard the battleship USS Alabama, carrying with him the courage and dedication of the Greatest Generation.  He was also present at the signing of the Japanese surrender and commended in service for the liberation of the Philippines. After returning home, he spent many faithful years working for Singer Furniture, where his strong work ethic and commitment earned the respect of those around him. His faith was the foundation of his life, guiding his actions and shaping the kindness, humility, and compassion he showed to others. He found joy in God's creation, especially while taking hikes and enjoying the beauty of the outdoors with his children Michelle and Ryan. Above all, he treasured his family. Some of his happiest moments were spent gathered around the table, laughing over games of cards or playing checkers with his beloved grandson, Ryan. Those simple moments became cherished memories that reflected the love, patience, and wisdom he shared so freely. His legacy is one of honor, faith, perseverance, and unconditional love. He will be remembered not only for the years of life he lived, but for the example he set and the lasting impact he made on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

Surviving are his two sons Lewis Shilling (Lisa). Larry Shilling (Rosana); six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother Charles and three sisters Mary, Faye and Garnett
