Wilford W. Hodges, 97 of Boones Mill, on May 19, 2010 took the Lords hand and was led through the gates of heaven. He was surrounded by his family who loved him very much. Wilford was born on January 8, 1913 in Franklin Co., VA.. Early in Wilford and Evelyns marriage they lived 4 years in Indiana. The rest of Wilfords life was spent in Boones Mill. Wilford worked for Roanoke City Mills for several years during the 1940s and 50s. Wilford, along with his son, Ray, worked hard together as farmers and grew apples and raised cows, chickens, and pigs. Later in life he enjoyed working in his wood working shop and made many beautiful things. Wilford was well known by the nick name Big Man. His twin brother Wilbur was known as Little Man. Wilford loved the Lord and was a lifelong member of Monte Vista Church of the Brethren and also attended Cedar Bluff Church of the Brethren. He was preceded in death by his parents Fred and Ella Hodges, his wife of 63 faithful years Evelyn Wray Hodges, his Son-in-law James Hodges, his twin brother Wilbur and wife Grace, brothers and sister in law, Herbert and Elizabeth Hodges, Ernest, Luther,& Henry Hodges, sister and brother in-law, Mildred and John Slocum, Tom Stilwell, Ada Holt, sister in-law and brothers in-law, Myrtle Webster, Raymond Webster, Arthur Maro. Wilford is survived by his loving wife of 9 years, Blanche Hicks Hodges; three daughters and sons in-laws; Annabell Hodges and special friend Dan Gunter, Christeen and Ray Hartman, Marilyn and Leonard Donahue; One son and daughter in-law, Ray and Shirley Hodges; Step sons and wives, Bobby and Faye Hicks, Larry and Denise Hicks; Step daughter and husband, Suzette and Dwight Blalock; Grandchildren and spouses: Alan and Diane Hartman, Stanley Donahue, Charles and Shelly Hodges, Serina Gregory and fiance Damon Bailey, Dale and Kathy Hartman, Marie and Sidney Muncy; Step Grandchildren and spouses; Allison and Clifford Mullins, Kenny Paul Mills, Kerri Mills, Sabrina Hicks,& Jason Hicks; Great Grandchildren; Tabitha and Mattie Hartman, Austin and Amber Gregory, Victoria, Sara and Hannah Muncy, Shane and Drew Hodges, Randa and Kortney Hartman; Step Great Granddaughter; Anna Danielle Mullins; Sisters and brother in-law; Sarah and Linford Nichols, Hopewell; Martha Stilwell and special friend David Wray, Vinton; Rufus Holt, Roanoke; Sisters in-law, Margaret Hodges, Hopewell, Laura Hodges, North Carolina; Sisters in-law; Helen Maro, Moneta; Blanche Webster, Callaway; Brothers in-law and wife; Luther and Kathleen Wray, Roanoke; Marvin Webster, Greenfield, Indiana; Several nieces, nephews, and friends. The family would like to thank the Good Samaritan Hospice for their help and care of Wilford, with special thanks to Brigette, Britany, Aretha, Amanda, Pam, Marvin and Sara. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Monte Vista Church of the Brethren Building Fund, 25 Wades Gap Rd., Callaway, VA 24067. Funeral services will be conducted from Monte Vista Church of the Brethren 2 p.m. Saturday with Pastor Jimmy Robinson and Pastor Doug Jones officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
