William Wells Edens

William W. “Buddy” Edens, age 89, of Boones Mill, passed away Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at his home. He was born April 16, 1924, a son of the late Charley and Pearl Edens. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Hazel Epperly. Mr. Edens was a veteran of the US Army, having served in WWII. He was also a member of the Germantown Brick Church of the Brethren, and worked for Rainbow Bread Company for 45 years. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Alvena Plunkett Edens; sons, Michael W. Edens (Martha) of Greensboro, NC, and Mark S. Edens (Madeline) of Stamford, CT; grandson, Christopher Edens of Atlanta, GA; brothers, Gene Edens of Jacksonville, FL, Donald Edens of Memphis, TN, Fred Edens of Roanoke, and Kenneth Edens of Roanoke; brothers-in-law, Jay (Reba) Plunkett, and Dee Plunkett; sisters-in-law, Virginia Sink and Alvera Abshire. The family would like to thank Carilion Clinic Hospice of Roanoke for their loving care. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Germantown Brick Church of the Brethren, 2363 Brick Church Rd., Rocky Mount, VA 24151. There will be a graveside service 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 16, at Franklin Memorial Park, with Pastor Bruce Huffman officiating.
